Book Review: Radical by David Platt

I just finished reading this book. And I am just in awe. What a life changing read it was! God's timing was perfect on me reading this right before Cambodia - because the authors words got me fired up to be going on a mission trip!

David Platt made some very bold statements that I agreed with in the book. He discussed how we have created Jesus to fit into our culture and not stayed true to who He is in the Bible. Here's a quote from the book - "We are giving in to the dangerous temptation to take the Jesus of the Bible and twist Him into a version of Jesus we are more comfortable with. We are molding Jesus into our image." And here's another one of my favorite quotes - "We've missed what is radical about our faith and replaced it with what is comfortable. We are settling for a Christianity that revolves around catering to ourselves when the central message of Christianity is actually about abandoning ourselves."

He also talks boldly about missions making a point that we cannot say we aren't "called" to missions. Because Jesus' last words to his disciples was "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" Matthew 28:19. Jesus told us to go and tell others about Him.

Just to sum up the whole book, i'll tell you the end. The book ended with the "Radical experiment. It is basically 5 action items for a whole year.
1. Pray for the entire world
2. Read through the entire Word
3. Sacrifice your money for a specific purpose
4. Spend your time in another context
5. Commit your life to a multiplying community

I started this challenge on 6.27.11 - more to come on this! Be radical for Jesus!
